Titans just participated in the Christmas Tournament over at Ocoee High school. Only 3 other schools were involved. Ocoee, Osceola and Boone High school. It was a 3 day event this week. Each High school playing one opponent each day.
I must say, I was rather on the nervous side of emotions coming into this. Lots of boys out due to family ties with the holidays upon us. Few players out with club duties and others injuries. All in all, coming into day 1 we were without 7 of our starters. Yes…you wonder why I was a little worried.
Called a few boys up from the JV squad to participate. They have been doing very well – this is good exposure and experience for them
We started off very well playing Boone High school, demolishing them 6-1. I thought that we out classed them in all areas of the field. It was a very good victory – I wasnt expecting that to say the least – we decided to stay after the game to scout our next opponents Osceola. They were playing the big rivals of Ocoee. They didn’t look like much – their big number 10 was a threat, but that was about it.
Day 2 – The first 10 minutes of the game we played the best football all year. We were playing two touch. Passing the ball well. Creating chances. Very quick on the ball. - Then it all went down hill from. I don’t want to talk about it much but we ended up getting hammered 6-3. We were down 5 goals for most of the game. We managed to pull it back to 3 goals – another 10 mins and i think we may have tied it up. – moving on……
Day 3 – we had to beat Ocoee. We had to win big, by 3 goals. Neither side could get into it. It was a very dull game. Ocoee would be happy with the 0-0. They would win the tournament. We needed 3 goals! – they knew this, so what did they do? sit back and defend all day long! – we ended up getting beat 1-0. They were crown the winners…
Anyways…this was a tournament, so yes…it didnt really mean anything in the standings. Ocoee is top of the district and we play them at home in the new year. I cannot wait. We will have all our boys back ready to go. Redemption! Glad the JV boys did well, a lot of running – but hats off to them. These are lessons learnt going into the new year
Football is a funny ole sport sometimes…
Titans have a Very Merry Christmas!
